Fence Types
Plastic HorseRail - 4", 5", and 6"
This has a great wooden board look with no need of paint. It is safer than wood because it flexes rather than breaking on impact. It has a lower risk of injury than wire as it is hard to get caught or cut with the smooth, wide plastic rails. Post spacing of up to 12 feet is common. Each rail has over 3000 pounds breaking strength. This rail requires well braced ends which take time to build properly (particularly if you don't have a hydraulic post driver). Horserail comes with a 30 year limited warranty.
End buckles and splicer buckles make this fence type much easier to install. The buckles are a way to terminate the rail at ends and corners.
Coated wire - Kencote
Compared to standard high tensile fence wire, this 12½ gauge plastic coated wire is more attractive, safer and more visible. This wire can be installed with up to 50 foot post spacing's when electric wire is also used on the fence. Kencove core is Class 3 zinc coated for longevity. Manufacturer provides a 30 year limited warranty.
Hotcote (Electrified Coated Wire) adds electric, visibility, safety, and good looks to any fence. HotCote is made with our high strength USA 210 Class 3 12.5 gauge wire as the core. Overall thickness is about .3", making it the most visible coated wire on the market. The lifetime of coated wire products is increased by adding electric. The electric keeps animals from working against the fence, wearing the plastic at points of attachment. This high-visibility wire is a great alternative to smooth high-tensile wire. Manufacturer provides a 20 year limited warranty.
HotTop Electric Fence Rail
HotTop utilizes the same durable and flexible high-tensile wire bonded to UV-stabilized polyethylene as Horserail, but with the added benefit of electrification. The signature spark of Hottop is made possible by a strip of highly conductive carbon running along the top rail wire that, when partnered with a high quality low-impedance energizer, transforms ordinary Horserail into an electrified physical and psychological barrier. Using Hottop eliminates the need to run an additional electric wire along the rail, saving valuable installation time.
Self-preservation is an important feature of Hottop; the electrification discourages horses from cribbing or reach-through behaviors, minimizing the abuse the fence will take and thus extending its life. While Horserail is designed to safely resist impact, the zap of Hottop provides an additional incentive for horses to stay off the fence completely and significantly reduces the chance of any injury or fence damage.
Electric Rope Fence
Rope makes an electric fence that is much more visible than wire or twine. It does not require braced end posts and it is easy to hand knot. Round rope doesn't’t wind whip as much as electric ribbons so post spacing can be wider and the higher breaking strength allows it to handle much more abuse. Rope works great for making electric gates.
Safe Fence ™ for Horses
Sometimes referred to as polytape or ribbon, 1.5" electric tape fence is easier and faster to build than many systems because it is only hand tensioned. Ends do not have to be super strong. The fence is very visible and it is hard for horses to get injured if they become entangled. Because 15 stainless steel conductors are woven into the tape, there is no need to run other electric wires.
Board Fence
Rope makes an electric fence that is much more visible than wire or twine. It does not require braced end posts and it is easy to hand knot. Round rope doesn't’t wind whip as much as electric ribbons so post spacing can be wider and the higher breaking strength allows it to handle much more abuse. Rope works great for making electric gates.
High Tensile Smooth Wire
Long life, great strength and resiliency, low cost and low maintenance all are reasons to consider this fence. Simple electrification gives high control of animals inside and outside of the fence.
Relatively poor visibility and risk of entanglement and some injury must be considered when making decisions about installing this type of fence. Closer post spacings, spacers, fence flags and/or electric ribbon all improve visibility for this product. Keeping the bottom wire at least 18" off the ground and using electricity makes entanglement less likely.
